Sony PSP Digital Camera Details Are OUT!
Sony has released details on the PSP Digital Camera. It will be a 1.3 mega pixel camera, that attaches to the top center of the PSP, in other words to the mini USB port. The camera will first be released in Japan during Fall of 2006.
Just in case you are wondering 1.3 MP is around 1280 x 960 pixels on the web or 5" x 7" printed. That is extremely low considering the camera standards are now 3 MP+, maybe even more. At the end it’s up to you whether you will be shelling out money for the PSP Camera.

there's no point in it...people have cameras that are smaller than the psp with higher resolution.

| its not really 1.3 megapixels. if you go to www.pspupdates.com (where this info was stolen from) you can see that the original author corrected the typo. The picture clearly says 3.1 mega pixels. |

| What the heck is wrong with you all? First off, this not meant to be a digital camera replacement, it is the equivalent of a webcam, which all run at such low resolutions so that video can be sent via internet at a fast speed. This is the eye toy on the psp, for those of you who didnt know, the regular eyetoy for ps2 probably has the exact same if not similar resolution. To add to all of your uneducated low res means crappy shots comments, the psp screen is something around 600 by 400 i think, which means that guess what, every shot you take with this camera will look just great on your psp screen, resolution wise that is. While this might not be a must have why dont you all consider what it will be used for, Not one photographer who knows what they are doing would use a psp to take pictures, this camera is for video chats, which if you can sit down at a starbucks, and have a video conference with your friend halfway around the world all from your psp, that is pretty freaking sweet. jeesh, how old are you all? |

i wouldn't really consider 1.3MP low considering the more common desktop resolution is 1024x768.
people need to realize that picture quality doesn't solely rely on the megapixelness of a camera. a camera might have 5 million sensor elements, but with a bad lens, you'll just get a huge, grainy 2560x1920 picture, which quality when resized to 1280x960 is just as good as a picture taken with a 1.3megapixel camera with a good lens. |

| Well the only reason why i didnt add any opinon to this news post is due to just that lol. Im very low on knowledge about cameras, so i tend to avoid posting fake comments about that stuff. but now that i think about it 1024 x 960 is amazing big for images. I have a 3 mp camera, and at max rez the images are way then enough lol. I had a 1.3 mp camera before and it was total junk. I think it was the lends, but at the end i heard some itnerestign news about this. I heard that it might also come with a built in microphone :) Now that could turn out pretty interesting :) |

A 1.3 mega pixel image isn't such a
sucky resolution. Statistics show that most people use there pics for quick viewing and small prints, and this device is capable of satisfying the majority of the people who buy it. If you have a good camera, well then, good for you, I actually perfer this for on-the-go pics as it will sell at a much lower price than if it had a higher res.
Oh, and just as an interesting fact, the BetterLight Super 10K-2 scanning back camera captures 140 megapixel images, at the price of about $25,000. |

| the fact that the megapixles for this camera is 1.3 is not important considering that the pictures and video are designed to be played on a psp screen which is about 2in.X4in. and 1.3 Mp is completely sufficient for the screen for which they were meant to be displayed on... |

So having a webcam for my psp on a wifi conection will make all my probs go away. so GO SONY YALL ROCK. and who cares if the cam only has 1.3 MP i guarantee that no one buys the psp just for the cam feature the goal is just to make your experience better. besides if they do make it a psp eyetoy than they can come out with cool new games and if the cam is a big hit than they may upgrade the mega pixels. but who knows so all of yall need to quit dogging the new cam like scales said it is not trying to replace digital cams. |

| I agree with Scales and friends that the megapixels for this camera really isn't the point! If you all have super megapixel cameraphones, why are you even worried about the psp cam. I think the psp is only missing two things right now...1. Phone capabilities , and 2. A CAMERA! (even though #2 might make #1 possible via internet and built-in mic.) I don't think any of us can imagine the possibilities this could do for the psp! I love it already and don't even have it yet! (even though you can get it on ebay right now!) I have a 5 megapixel camera but NEVER use over 2-3 megapixel resolution because the file size is too big to actually take lots of pictures and store them. I mostly use it on 1megapixel and my pics come out great and small sized! Everyone else needs to QUIT HATIN ON THE PSP CAMERA before it even comes out! This is going to be one of the best PSP accesories yet (besides the LocationFreePlayer, by the way, is off the hook!) HOLLA BACK |

| First of all im a loyal sony customer I want this camera asap what sony is trying to do is make the PSP the most versitile and portable system on the market I trust SONY like I trust VISA this is the first visual of the camera I,ve seen lol PSPCrazy P.S. | the 1.3 megapixels will be a prototype to be given to testers to see how it goes and if the camera idea clicks then the will release a camera with larger mp's.jus takes abit of common sense to think bout wat they cud do wit the camera rather than jumpin2conclusions. oh and btw 'spicyhamster' u need to get sum glasses mate |

| i think 1.3mp is high enough cos that can still make perfect quality postcard size pics and i have a 3mp sony camera and it doesnt pixilize on my 42 inch plasma screen and even if this does a third that size i will be happy and besides it needs 2 be low res for on line streaming. i cant wait . the ds looks like a peice of junk now |

it's a 7.2mp and i just fingured this is only 1.5. XD

| Hey pspcrazy nice job with the photoshop on that camera, if you made a typo yo shouldve just changed it instead of addin that stupid 1.3 megapixels to the picture, I can tell you added it in 2 ways. 1. The picture is clear everywhere until you get to the wording. 2. Why would sony add a 1.3 megapixels to the camera, let alone spell it wrong, its one word megapixels not 2 you dipshit. |

| personally i think this camera is great due to that you can take pictures wherever you are in the world and then use it to play games. say if i was abroad i could take a picture and then if there was a car journey you can play the psp. its great how much is it? |
