Q: How do torrents get in the correct category/sub-category?
A: Volunteer effort by people like YOU.
Torrents are either placed in the correct location during the submission process, or they get moved there afterwards by volunteers.
The following information is out of date. We'll update it when the current category/subcategory changes are complete.
NOTE 1: EXPLICIT (ADULT) MATERIAL: In all cases please make sure that you place torrents according to their contents:
Follow these procedures to determine what category and sub-category non-copyrighted content should be placed in.
- Adult - explicit content ONLY, English content (unless language stated in torrent title)
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Non-English: place in the appropriate "Non-English>..."
- Otherwise: place in the most appropriate sub-category
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Content?"
- Hentai - explicit content ONLY, Japanese content (unless language stated in torrent title)
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Non-Japanese: place in the appropriate "Non-Japanese>..."
- Otherwise: place in the most appropriate sub-category
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Content?"
- Misc - Miscellaneous
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate sub-category
- If you can't find an appropriate sub-category: leave the torrent in "Unsorted>_Content?" and request a new sub-category.
- Music
- Sub-category naming policy: per allmusic.com genre/sub-genre (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Per allmusic.com: place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre
- Only as a last resort: "_Genre?"
- Non-English (merged from former "Anime", "Applications>Non-English", "Misc>Non-English", "Movies>Non-English", "TV-Non-English")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate sub-category (see NOTE 2 above)
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Language?>_Content?"
- OS-Handheld - ipod, pocketPC, phone, etc (merged from former "Anime>Handheld", "Applications>Handheld", "Movies>Handheld", "TV-Handheld")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Video: special sub-categories for platform-independent Movies, Music Videos, and Other video content.
- Otherwise: Place in the most appropriate sub-category for the platform
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Content?"
- OS-Linux (formerly named "Linux")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- OS-Macintosh (formerly named "Macintosh")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- OS-Other>Apps- Non-(Windows/Handheld/Linux/Macintosh) Applications (e.g. php & multi-platform Java) (formerly part of "Misc")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- OS-Other>Games- Non-(Windows/Handheld/Linux/Macintosh) (formerly part of "Games")
- Sub-category naming policy: per gamefaqs.com genre/sub-genre (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre as indicated by gamefaqs.com
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- OS-Windows>Apps - Applications (formerly part of "Applications")
- Sub-category naming policy: per user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- OS-Windows>Games (formerly part of "Games")
- Sub-category naming policy: per gamefaqs.com genre/sub-genre (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- Place in the most appropriate genre/sub-genre as indicated by gamefaqs.com
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
- Unsorted/Other - English content (unless language stated in torrent title)
- _Content? - only if no other category/sub-category applies
- Spam - move a torrent to this category to have a moderator review & remove the it (no need for a separate "delete-request").
- Video (merged from former "Movies", "Music>Video", "TV")
- Sub-category naming policy: per imdb.com genre/sub-genre and user request (justified by torrent volume)
- Placement of content is as follows:
- look the content up in imdb.com:
- If found in imdb, check the length of the video:
- If a movie: place in the most appropriate "Genre>Movie" sub-category
- Otherwise: place in the most appropriate "Genre>Other" sub-category
- If NOT found in imdb, check the length of the video:
- If a movie: place in the most appropriate "Genre>Movie" sub-category
- If NOT a movie, check the content type:
- If it's a music video: place in the "Music Video" sub-category
- If clips from videos, commercials, trailers: place in the "Short" sub-category
- If sports related: place in the "Sport>Other" sub-category
- Otherwise: place in the most appropriate "Genre>Other" sub-category
- Only as a last resort: place in "_Genre?"
If you'd like to help, pick any title that's in the wrong sub-category (like _Unsorted, or Latest/Yesterday's Torrents), and use the "Request to move this torrent to another category" link to move it to the appropriate location.
